Xun Yu, courtesy name Wenruo, was born in Yingchuan's Yingyin county. Initially recommended as filial and uncorrupted, he served as Palace Guardian. After Dong Zhuo's rebellion, he joined Cao Cao, rising through the ranks that include Marshal, Privy Counselor, and Imperial Secretary. As Cao Cao's chief advisor, he participated in military and state affairs, and advocated for the welcoming of Emperor Xian to Xuchang. During campaigns, he often stay behind and govern from the back. He provided valuable assistance in the defeat of Lu Bu, Yuan Shao, and Liu Biao. Living frugally, he shared his salary to relatives, leaving no personal wealth behind. He was posthumously honored as Marquis Jing.
