INFINITE BORDERS 10th Anniversary Summer Major Update: Preview of New Conquest Season "Northern Expedition to Revive Han" (Part I)

2025/06/06

Zhuge Liang's Chu Shi Biao is a masterpiece for the ages. Who across a thousand years could stand as his equal?

— Lu You

In the fifth year of Jianxing, Zhuge Liang presented a memorial to Liu Bei's successor Liu Shan, rallied troops at Hanzhong, and struck West Mt. Long with a surprise force, capturing three commanderies and shaking the Guanzhong region. However, Ma Su's disobedience of orders and the resulting loss of Jieting cost the army's supply routes and the whole campaign. Though the campaign fell short of its goal, Zhuge's unparalleled military genius and unwavering dedication, along with his previous triumph at Red Cliffs, are immortalized in history. Now, as the drums of war beat and the flames of battle rise once more, join us in "Northern Expedition to Revive Han" to take command and restore the Han dynasty!

[The Three Qins—Gateway to the Central Plain]

The towering Chang'an controls the Wei River to the north and the Qin River to the south. Zhuge Liang marched from Mt. Qi on six expeditions to the Central Plain, all aimed at securing three key strategic locations—West Mt. Long, the three Qins, and Chang'an. Capturing Chang'an would open the gateway to Guanzhong, allowing the Central Plain to be conquered. Yet with Mt. Long's treacherous paths and the Wei forces' fortifications, the Han army suffered from logistical problems. The northern expedition could not have been won with speed alone—only by securing the key locations and building the momentum of the armies could have the Han turned the tide.

This season underscores Chang'an's strategic importance: it serves as the gateway to the cities of Longxi in the west, overlooks Tong Pass in the east, and connects to Ziwu Valley in the south, with all routes converging on Chang'an. Lords must assess their strategies and choose the best route to march on Chang'an.

    [Brilliant Minds, Fearless Warriors]

Zhuge Liang earnestly advised in his Chu Shi Biao ("Pre-Battle Memorandum to His Majesty"), "Be close to virtuous ministers and keep petty men at distance. This was how the former Han prospered." Now, as the Han once again raises the banner of restoration, it requires not only the valor of heroes like Zhao Yun and Wei Yan but also the wisdom of statesmen like Fei Yi and Dong Yun. True strength lies in balance: civil affairs to forge a stable nation, and military might to conquer on the field. Only when these two work in harmony can one unify the land.

This season, we are introducing the Imperial Secretary and Deputy General positions, emphasizing the synergy between civil and military strength. the Imperial Secretary will wield crucial authority, overseeing officials and managing Hired Workers. This role demands ministers of unwavering loyalty and dedication, committed to perfecting governance and bolstering the armies. Their work ensures ample supplies and armaments, echoing how the legendary Xiao He once sustained an entire empire. The Deputy General, on the other hand, serves as a skilled second-in-command to field generals. Their adaptable Main Stratagems and clever strategies will help the Commander-in-Chief shatter enemy lines. This system mirrors the classic military concept of "orthodox and unorthodox" tactics, fostering military readiness and unity among the troops.

With dedicated officials working tirelessly at home and loyal commanders serving valiantly on the field, the Imperial Secretary will secure the nation's foundations, while the Deputy General strengthens your campaigns. Together, these civil and military arms will achieve Zhuge Liang's unfulfilled dream of uniting the country.

    [Brace for Crises]

As Sun Tzu said, "The skilled warrior first makes himself unbeatable, then waits for a chance to defeat the enemy." The heroes of the Three Kingdoms knew this well. During the fire attack at Red Cliffs, Zhou Yu secretly dispatched Huang Gai with assault ships as the vanguard, backed by 30,000 elite troops. As soon as Cao Cao's chained ships had erupted in flames, Zhou Yu unleashed his army. Similarly, while defending Hefei, Zhang Liao hid 800 elite soldiers in the barbican. When Sun Quan's 100,000-strong troops besieging the city weakened, Zhang personally led his armored troops to crush the enemy. Both examples highlight the importance of concealing your strength and biding your time.

Inspired by these legendary tacticians, this season introduces the City Reservist mechanic, where you can now rally Reservists in your cities to reinforce your front lines. "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." With Reservists, you can either launch devastating offensives or turn your cities into impenetrable fortresses.

In the past, Zhuge Liang was entrusted with Liu Bei's successor and the ambition to restore the Han. Now, as autumn winds stir again at Mt. Qi, and fallen stars relight over Wuzhangyuan, the stage is set for you all!
