INFINITE BORDERS 10th Anniversary Summer Major Update: Eight Formations Season Preview (Part 2)
2025/08/22
Greetings, mighty Lords!
Our previous preview of "Eight Formations" provided a basic understanding of the new season. Today, we'll delve deeper into the upcoming season.
[Central Palace Taiji: The Cycle of Yin and Yang]
The Book of Changes states that "From the Great Ultimate comes the Two Forms, from the Two Forms come the Four Symbols, and from the Four Symbols come the Eight Trigrams. The Eight Trigrams determine fortune and misfortune, and from fortune and misfortune arise great endeavors."
—The Book of Changes: Great Commentary I
Ancient scholars observed natural laws and combined them with philosophical thought to establish the theory of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements, using it to explain and understand everything in the world. This reflects the sages' simple materialism and spontaneous dialectical thinking. As stated in the "White Tiger Discourse" by Ban Gu of the Han Dynasty: "Why do the Five Elements cycle in dominance? Because they generate one another in sequence, thus forming an endless cycle. Wood generates Fire, Fire generates Earth, Earth generates Metal, Metal generates Water, and Water generates Wood."
To enrich the Lords' strategic experience and align with this cyclical philosophy of the ancients, the upcoming season will introduce a unique rotation mechanism in the Central Palace region:
After the season begins, the Central Palace region will be shrouded in a special fog, making it inaccessible. Once the World Milestones "Yin-Yang," "Opportune Time," "Morality," and "Free Roaming" are completed, Central Palace will be available for conquest, each session lasting for 6 days. When the battle for Central Palace begins, the Fog will dissipate, allowing Lords to enter, occupy Land, seize Cities, and earn large amounts of Occupation Points, which determine the tally rewards for each Faction. When the battle for Central Palace ends, Central Palace will close again, and ownership of all Land and Cities within it will be reset.
[Eight Gates: Direct Access to Central Palace]
In the upcoming season, the starting states will not be connected to each other. However, each of the eight starting states will have an "Eight Gate" entrance, with exits located in the Central Palace region, arranged in opposing pairs. If an Alliance/Assembly occupies an Eight Gate entrance, its members can directly mobilize troops to the corresponding exit, allowing them to participate in the battle for Central Palace even without establishing a foothold in the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, or Black Tortoise States, thereby influencing the final outcome of the Season.
Meanwhile, after each battle for Central Palace concludes, the eight gates' exits will be randomly swapped. Each Faction must adjust their deployment based on which enemy or ally they will encounter at the adjacent gate exits next time.
Each faction must strategize, making rational use of the eight gates to devise tactics. They can either enter Central Palace through the Resource State Passes and coordinate a pincer attack via the gate exits or concentrate their entire force for a targeted breakthrough. Until the very last moment, the final outcome remains uncertain!

[City Expansion]
After unlocking the construction function at 4000 Fame, Lords can build Scenic Terraces, Warehouses, Reservists Camps, Banking Houses, Mechanic Labs, Towers, and Taverns on Territories adjacent to Cities within the Supply Range of the Main City or a Subcity. Construction requires resources and takes up Construction Value. Upon completion, these buildings will provide Force Value. Specific construction conditions and effects are as follows:
Building Type |
Construction Conditions |
Effect |
---|---|---|
Scenic Terrace |
Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range |
Can place City appearance components |
Warehouse |
Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range, as well as Construction Land |
Increases the maximum resource storage |
Reservists Camp |
Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range, as well as Construction Land |
Can train and transfer Reservists |
Banking House |
Lv.6 Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range |
Increases this City's Taxes |
Mechanic Lab |
Lv.7 Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range |
Increases City Resource Yield |
Tower |
Lv.8 Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range |
Increase this city's view range |
Tavern |
Lv.9 Territories adjacent to a City within the Supply Range |
Increase the Stamina recovery speed of troops' Heroes in this city |
When the above buildings are constructed on Territories adjacent to a City, they will become integrated with the City and activate their respective building effects. If a building is no longer adjacent to the City (e.g., after the connecting buildings are abandoned or demolished), the building effects will be deactivated. If the construction land is adjacent to multiple Cities, the affiliated City must be selected during construction. When relocating the Main City or demolishing a Subcity, its affiliated special buildings will be automatically demolished, and placed City appearance components will be removed, while the Territory itself remains intact. Notably, the construction rules for Warehouses and Reservists Camps on construction land remain unchanged—those built on construction land will not lose their effects even if disconnected from their City.
Additionally, to allow Lords greater freedom to explore City expansion, the Eight Formations season introduces an Advanced Development feature. Lv.3 and 4 Territories within the Supply Range of the Main City or Subcities can be developed up to Lv.6 and 7. Banking Houses and Mechanic Labs can also be built on Territories that meet construction level requirements after development or Peach Land Soldier Reclamation upgrades.
[Season Stratagem]
According to the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Zhuge Liang deduced military tactics and created the Eight Formations, mastering its essence. The "Eight Formations" season will continue to offer seasonal Stratagems corresponding to each formation, aiming to diversify Lords' troop compositions.
After Lords select a starting state, join a faction, and complete the "Unity" World Milestone, they can purchase their Faction's seasonal Stratagems in the Marketplace. Upon completing the "Self-Reliance" World Milestone, they may also acquire other Factions' seasonal Stratagems.
INFINITE BORDERS has always been committed to providing Lords with a richer experience in management and warfare in ancient times. "With his exploits history is crowned; For his Eight Formations he's renowned." How will Lords deploy their troops, strategize, and overcome challenges in the upcoming season? We shall wait in great anticipation!
