2025/09/04

"Youping, you fought like a bear or tiger for my brothers and me, sparing no regard for your own life. Wounded dozens of times, your skin bears the marks like carvings. How could I not treat you with the kindness of a brother, entrusting you with the solemn responsibilities of the troops and horses? You are a meritorious servant of Wu, and I shall share glory and disgrace with you, as well as joys and sorrows. Act with boldness, Youping, and do not sell yourself short due to humble origins."

—From "Records of Jiangbiao," Sun Quan's words to Zhou Tai

Fearless in protecting his lord, he fought like a bear or tiger, bearing many scars.

Amidst the flower fields, his martial prowess stirs a spring rain of petals, scattering over the Ruxu worship altar.

Zhou Tai, styled Youping, was a native of Xiacai in Jiujiang. Initially following Sun Ce in campaigns, he was appointed as a Separate Department Marshal for his merits. He campaigned against the Shanyue tribes. When Sun Quan was trapped, Zhou Tai fought fiercely to protect him, bearing twelve wounds. For his merits, he was appointed as the Chief of Chungu and later of Yichun. In all the places he was posted, he lived off the taxes and levies he collected. Later, he contributed in the campaign against Huang Zu, joined Zhou Yu in defeating Cao Cao at Red Cliffs, attacked Cao Ren in Nan Commandery, and repelled Cao Cao at Ruxu. He rose to the rank of Governor of Hanzhong and General of Unfearing, and earned the title of the Marquis of Lingyang.
