Battle of Nanzhong Season Preview (Part 2)

2026/06/24

Greetings, mighty Lords!

In the previous preview, we revealed the overarching dynamic battlefield and gameplay concepts of "Battle of Nanzhong" to all Lords. Today, we will take a closer look at how the two major Factions are divided, the rules for army raising, and the season's unique miasma, terrain, periodic migration mechanics, and tally rules.

[Faction Divisions: Raise an Army for the Decisive Battle]

"Two forces vie for strategic ground; one move decides the victor."

This season's map focuses on part of southern Yizhou. The full map contains nine commanderies, divided into two opposing Factions and a central contested area:

· Shu Han Faction: Zhuge Liang gathers the strength of Hanjia, Qianwei, and Ba in the north to launch a three-pronged southern campaign.

· Contested Area: Meng Huo occupies the three resource commanderies of Yuexi, Shushi, and Zangke in the center.

· Nanzhong Faction: The Nanzhong tribes of Yunnan, Jianning, and Xinggu in the south work tirelessly to aid Meng Huo.

To ensure a fair and unpredictable battlefield, this season will use a random Faction assignment system: after the division results are announced in the Preparation Area, each team will be randomly assigned to either the Shu Han or Nanzhong Faction. Players in the same team are guaranteed to be assigned to the same Faction. Once the season server opens, they may freely choose where to raise an army from among their Faction's three starting commanderies. Once a Faction is determined, it cannot be switched during the season. The two Factions will fight in the contested area to occupy the Commandery Capital where Meng Huo is located, whether to "capture" Meng Huo or "rush to aid" him. Will you follow Marquis Wu on his southern campaign, or swear a blood oath and rush to Meng Huo's aid? The choice lies with fate.

This season, to allow all Lords to develop safely in their starting areas and fight in the contested area without worry, after you conquer other Forces, you will not be able to use their Territories within a starting commandery to march. Additionally, when attacking Territories or Buildings in a starting commandery, if your Main City is not in that commandery, your Troops' Siege Value will be greatly reduced.

[Miasma Spreads: Seize Opportunity from the Shadows]

"Break through the miasma and advance to vie for new momentum; conceal yourself and hold the ground to seize the opportunity."

In the Nanzhong region, miasma hangs thick in the air. During the Season, Lords must contend with the widely distributed Miasma Disaster across the entire map: resource Land on the map has a chance to be shrouded in miasma, blocking its intel—Lords will be unable to view the Garrison details of that Land or the enemy Force's Troops. If a battle is lost, the Battle Report will also not reveal Hero information for the enemy Force's Troops. Additionally, due to the effects of miasma, Troops cannot halt after occupying Land affected by miasma.

The density of miasma will gradually increase from the starting commandery toward the resource commanderies. Braving the miasma to open new lands comes with risks, but as a reward, the first 5 times each day that a Lord occupies a tile containing miasma, they will not only receive abundant early expansion resources, but also obtain additional "Master Plan" Items to take part in strategic decisions in the subsequent "Seven-Star Plan" gameplay. Overcoming all obstacles amid the miasmal haze is not only key to establishing an early advantage in the new season, but also a tactical opportunity for later contests and confrontations.

To avoid the effects of miasma, Lords can dispel it by constructing a Building on that Land, or choose a Master Plan in "Seven-Star Plan" that ignores the effects of miasma. The choice of strategy is entirely in the Lord's hands.

[Treacherous Terrain: Seek Victory Amid Peril]

"Treacherous lands give rise to countless schemes; seek victory amid peril and stir the winds of change."

As the front line advances, Lords will gradually push deeper into the contested area's two secondary resource commanderies (Yuexi and Zangke) and 1 central resource commandery (Shushi). The counties containing these three Commandery Capitals each have one type of special treacherous terrain. They are both natural strongholds and fertile ground for schemes:

Terrain

Distribution Area

Terrain Effects

Rattan Forest

County containing the Yuexi Commandery Capital

[Material Gathering] Construction and upgrade time for Facilities outside Cities are greatly reduced.

[Quick Build] Facility Durability Cap is greatly reduced.

Snake Valley

County containing the Shushi Commandery Capital

[Snake Path] Marching to a Snake Valley adjacent to your own or an ally's Snake Valley does not require Adjacent Land.

[Fright] In battle, damage dealt by both the attacker and defender is reduced for the first few turns.

Poisoned Spring

County containing the Zangke Commandery Capital

[Fervor] Garrison range is increased to 5x5.

[Poison Draught] In battle, recovery effects received by both the attacker and defender are greatly reduced.

Adapt to the terrain and change with the times. Every type of terrain can give rise to unique tactics that rely on its effects. How to use terrain to expand your strategic advantage will pose an even greater challenge to every Lord's command ability!

[Seven Captures and Seven Releases, Rise Again to Fight]

"Capture and release are not enough to mark defeat; who can say an inevitable return is not to come?"

"The Battle of Nanzhong" will break the unchanging tug-of-war along fixed battle lines. As the objective contested by both Factions, Meng Huo will move his stronghold to other resource commanderies as the season's world progression advances. Both Factions will engage in multiple rounds of confrontation centered on whether to "capture" Meng Huo or "reinforce" Meng Huo.

At the start of the season, Meng Huo will gather his forces at Shushi, the central resource Commandery Capital. The Shu Han Faction must occupy the Commandery Capital where Meng Huo is located in order to "capture" him, while the Nanzhong Faction must likewise occupy the Commandery Capital where Meng Huo is located in order to "reinforce" him. World Milestones include 7 capture-and-release tally phases. At the end of each of the first 6 phases, Meng Huo will move to one of the two other resource Commandery Capitals. Each time he moves, all Force Territories, Buildings, and Alliance Cities in the county of Meng Huo's newly arrived Commandery Capital will have their ownership completely cleared. Miasma Disasters there will regenerate, and their Garrison Strength will gradually increase!

Old defensive lines will collapse in an instant, and new battlefields will open at once. To maintain fairness for both sides' battle lines amid such drastic changes, when each capture-and-release phase begins, the top 3 Alliances on the Force Rankings of each Faction will each receive one [Center Command Tent] in Meng Huo's county. Alliance members can dispatch up to 5 Troops to Quick Mobilize there and join the frontline confrontation. Center Command Tents are permanently under Truce and cannot be occupied by Rival Factions. Troops inside can use City Reservists to draft immediately.

Rapid deployments around the Center Command Tents and the struggle to capture or release Meng Huo at his Commandery Capital will deliver the most exhilarating combat experience of the season. If victory or defeat in a single battle is not enough to win hearts and subdue the enemy, then capture and release them seven times until they are fully convinced!

The Nanzhong Battlefield is ever-changing, with multiple rounds of strategy and conflict inspired by the seven captures and seven releases. Naturally, a season tally that rewards Lords based on their contributions is also essential. At the end of each of the 7 capture-and-release Phases, the Faction that occupies the City where Meng Huo is currently located will win that phase. Lords will receive draw Times for Conquest or Secession Card Packs based on their Phase War Merit Ranking:

If the Commandery Capital where Meng Huo is located is not occupied by either Faction, or is occupied by Guerrillas, both Factions will be considered defeated.

In addition, at the final Season tally, all Lords whose total draws from Card Packs obtained across all phases are fewer than 7 will receive enough Secession Card Packs to make up the difference to 7 draws. Based on the final outcome of which Faction occupies the Commandery Capital where Meng Huo is located, as well as this Season's total War Merit Ranking, the corresponding Card Pack free attempts, SP Card Pack attempts, and eligibility to purchase Conquest-Limited Honor Products will be issued:
