Preview of the Brand New Conquest Season—Decisive Battle of Yiling (Part 1)

2024/07/26

Holding spears and raising torches to break the enemy camp, Xuande fled to Baidi City in desperation. Lu Xun inspired awe and fear among Wei Shu soldiers; the King of Wu dared not disrespect scholars.

 — Luo Guanzhong

In the past, Liu Bei, with his majestic presence, had just ascended to the throne. Enraged by Eastern Wu's attack on Guan Yu, which resulted in the complete loss of Jingzhou, he led his troops eastward in a rapid advance, establishing a hundred-mile-long camp with great momentum all the way to Yiling. Unexpectedly, his forces were burned and scattered in Yiling, forcing him to flee to Baidi at night, lamenting, "I have been humiliated by Lu Xun, is this not the will of heaven?" Thus, the Battle of Yiling established the territorial boundaries of the Three Kingdoms and became a turning point in the history of the Three Kingdoms, known alongside the Battle of Guandu and the Battle of Red Cliffs as one of the three great campaigns of the Three Kingdoms Period. This time, we present a preview of a brand new themed season "Decisive Battle at Yiling" in INFINITE BORDERS for all of you.

[Xiangxi, Yiling: Defend from High Ground]
The Battle of Yiling has been lamented by later generations, but looking back at this battle, neither side was bound to be victorious. Yiling was a contested land, a critical point, and a national gateway. After passing through Yiling, the river widens and the road grows smooth, leading forces directly to Xiangyang and disrupting Jingzhou. As a narrow tract of water-bordering terrain, Yiling is a land of varying elevation. If armies can swiftly organize and adapt to the terrain, seizing high ground for defense, the outcome of the Wu-Shu conflict might well be unpredictable, and the fortunes of the world yet decided.
This season will reestablish Yiling's strategic position, adding the brand new resource state [Xiangxi], whose state capital will be Yiling. Jingzhou and Yizhou, each connected to Xiangxi and leading to Sili, will lead to brand new changes with regards to the world's contention.
This season will also introduce brand new highland terrain. Cliffs form along the edges of highlands, making territories on either side of the cliffs non-adjacent and requiring the search for sloped passages. Territories on highlands have higher terrain, gaining not only a vision buff but also additional combat advantages when highland troops fight against those on lower terrain. Navigating barriers and defending strategic heights will surely be part of your military dispatch and adept strategies, my Lords.

[Wooden Palisade Encampment, Fire Spreads for Miles]
At first, when Cao Pi heard that Liu Bei's army was advancing east, building camps and palisades stretching over 700 miles, he said to his ministers: "He clearly does not understand the art of war. How could a camp spanning 700 miles resist the enemy?" However, he did not consider the previous Shu army's "penetration of 500-600 miles, maintained for seven to eight months." Even Wu generals sighed, saying there would be no benefit to attacking. Lu Xun's strategy of using preemptive strikes for reconnaissance followed by arson shows deep strategic planning, living up to his reputation as one entrusted with heavy responsibilities. There are no strategies that yield absolute victory; but adapting them to the situation can produce extraordinary results.
This season will also introduce the brand new building [Wooden Palisade Camp]. Wooden palisades are not only lightweight and have lower construction costs, but also facilitate the replenishment and increase of troops outside the city. Additionally, wooden camps are easy to build with locally available materials, easy to expand, and can be co-constructed with allied forces to form a continuous camp, greatly improving the efficiency of military preparations and enhancing military function.
Additionally, in this season, you can use the [Fire Attack] tactic to assail the enemy. Since the stockade itself is wooden and easily flammable, if a fire starts, it will spread easily. Fire Attacks may have miraculous effects.

   [Prudent Governance, Strategic Planning]
As far as the art of war goes, troop mobilization is superficial; balancing kingdom strength is core. During the Battle of Yiling, Shu Han controlled Yizhou, stretching from the Qinling Mountains to Nanzhong, with 280,000 households, a population of 940,000, and over 100,000 troops; Sun Quan's Eastern Wu controlled Yang, Jing, and Jiao provinces, with a population of 2.3 million and 230,000 troops. All military supplies and provisions are the result of kingdom policies.
This season will also introduce a brand new "Kingdom Policy" feature, with each state title corresponding to a "Kingdom Policy" effect. When a Monarch establishes a kingdom, the monarch can implement corresponding "National Policies" based on the location of the Capital and the chosen State Title. Govern the country with strategy and policy. In this season, in addition to "Kingdom Policies," Lords also need to choose individual development strategies. Based on individual preferences for scholars, farmers, artisans, and merchants, Lords can choose and implement "Optional Policies" that suit their needs at different phases of fame.

Wooden palisades and linked camps stretch for miles, perfectly set up for fire attacks. The decisive battle at Yiling will once again bring Lords to the battlefield in the Decisive Battle at Yiling season, where they can write epic tales and showcase their grand ambitions!
