What is Attack Range?
Basic Attacks' maximum range
Attack Range refers to the maximum range at which a Hero can perform a basic attack. Each turn, Heroes will randomly target enemies within their attack range for basic attacks. The distance between Heroes and enemies depends on the Heroes' positions within the lineup, so it's recommended to understand the mechanics before setting up lineups.

During battle, the Vanguards of both enemy and your troops will engage in combat first. If you do not consider Attack Range when setting up lineups, then you won't be able to perform basic attacks on the enemy when it is outside of your Attack Range.
If no Vanguards are deployed, they will not take up Attack Range
When a troop has no Vanguard, the Attack Range supposedly occupied by the Vanguard will not be calculated. Assuming both enemy and your troops have no Vanguards, as long as your Center has an Attack Range of 2, it can attack the enemy Grand Camp.
Attack Range Rules
· Attack Range differs from the Effective Range of Stratagems.
· Attack Range is an inherent attribute of Heroes, but it can be enhanced through the effects of Stratagems.
· If there is no Vanguard in the troop, the Attack Range occupied by the Vanguard will not be considered.
Stratagems affected by Basic Attacks
1. Counterattack Effect
2. Troop Dividing Effect
3. Pursuit Stratagems
Counterattack Effect
Heroes with the Counterattack effect will trigger this effect when they take a basic attack from the enemy. However, if your Heroes' Attack Range falls short, they won't be able to counterattack.

As shown in the table, if your Vanguards have an Attack Range of 1 and the Counterattack effect, they can counterattack enemy Vanguards at a distance of 1, but they cannot counterattack enemy Centers or Grand Camps at a distance of 2 or more.
Troop Dividing Effect
Heroes trigger the Troop Dividing effect after launching basic attacks, dealing additional damage to enemy Heroes adjacent to them. Apart from basic attacks, other forms of attacks do not trigger the Troop Dividing effect.

Pursuit Stratagems
Heroes who have learned Pursuit Stratagems have a certain chance to trigger them when launching a basic attack. However, since Heroes cannot launch basic attacks when there are no enemies within their Attack Range, it is crucial to pay special attention to the Attack Range of Heroes with Pursuit Stratagems.
