This article contains information about Stratagem Distance in INFINITE BORDERS. You'll find explanations on Stratagem Distance and what happens when Stratagems fail to hit the enemy. If you are unsure about the Effective Distance of Stratagems and how to equip them, it's highly recommended to read this article.
Examples of Stratagem Distance and Effective Range (Enemy as the Target)
Next, we will introduce the effective range of Stratagems that target enemies. Here is a summary of where Stratagems with various distances equipped by your troop can hit the enemy.
Effective range when the target is the enemy
Single Enemy Unit |
Randomly hits 1 target within Effective Distance |
Enemy group (2 targets within Effective Range) |
Randomly hits 2 targets within Effective Distance |
Enemy Group (1-2 targets within Effective Distance) |
Randomly hits 1-2 targets within Effective Distance |
Enemy Group (2-3 targets within Effective Range) |
Randomly hits 2-3 targets within Effective Distance |
Enemy Group (3 targets within Effective Range) |
Hits all enemy targets within Effective Distance |
With only a few exceptions, Stratagems that target enemies will randomly select targets within their Effective Distance. Stratagems that target all enemies can only affect
enemies within their Effective Distance.

Multiple-Target Stratagems and Their Application
When a Stratagem can affect multiple enemy targets, its targets will be within the Effective Distance of the Stratagem. Therefore, you can also select specific targets by narrowing down the effective range of Stratagems.
Excluding some Stratagems, you cannot specifically target the enemy Grand Camp.
When a Stratagem has an Effective Distance of 3 and can attack multiple enemies (2 targets within its Effective Distance)
When a Stratagem can attack 2 enemy targets and has an Effective Distance of 3, its effective range will be as described above. Therefore, if your Center Army has learned this Stratagem, there will be only 2 enemy targets within its effective range, ensuring that the Stratagem affects the enemy's Vanguard and Center.
Conversely, if you have the Grand Camp learn this Stratagem, the target within the effective range will be only the enemy Vanguard. In this case, you won't be able to fully utilize the multi-target effect of the Stratagem.
When a Stratagem has an Effective Distance of 5 and can attack multiple enemies (2 targets within their Effective Distance), it cannot select specific targets
When a Stratagem can attack 2 enemy units and has an Effective Distance of 5, its effective range extends from your Grand Camp to the enemy's. Therefore, such Stratagems cannot be used to select specific targets.
Examples of Stratagem Distance and Effective Range (Your Troop as the Target)
Next, let's discuss the effective range of Stratagems when your troop is the target. The following examples will illustrate the situation where Stratagems are equipped on Heroes stationed in the Grand Camp.
Stratagems that Target a Single Allied Unit
Other allied Heroes, except those who have already learned the Stratagem, may be selected as targets.
Stratagems that Target Multiple or All Allies
Other allied Heroes, except those who have already learned the Stratagem, may be selected as targets.
Stratagems that Target One of Your Units
All Heroes, including those who have already learned the Stratagem, may be selected as targets.
Stratagems that Target Multiple of Your Units
All Heroes, including those who have already learned the Stratagem, may be selected as targets.
Your Troop Group (2 targets within Effective Range) |
Selects 2 of your 3 troops at random |
Your troop group (1-2 targets within the Effective Distance) |
Selects 1-2 of your 3 troops at random |
Your troop group (2-3 targets within the Effective Range) |
Selects 2-3 of your 3 troops at random |
Your troop group (3 targets within Effective Distance) |
All 3 of your troops may be selected |
What is Stratagem Distance?
Effective Range of Stratagem Effects
Stratagem Distance is the same as the range of basic attacks and is the inherent effective distance of each Stratagem. No matter how many Stratagems you equip on a Hero, if there are no targets within the effective range, the Stratagems will not take effect.
Information on Stratagem Distance
① Stratagem Distance
"Effective Distance" on the Stratagem page refers to Stratagem Distance. The effective range of a Stratagem is defined as the distance between the Hero equipped with the Stratagem and the farthest Effective Distance.
② Affected Targets
"Targets" on the Stratagem page refers to the number of affected targets. It represents how many Heroes within the Effective Distance of the Stratagem can be affected by the Stratagem.
③ Heroes Equipped with Stratagems
The Heroes equipped with Stratagems also determine whether the Stratagems can take effect. Please note that if there are no targets within the Effective Distance, the Stratagem will not take effect.
